Víctor Jara was a musician, song writer,
professor, theater director and political activist. He was born in Ñuble´s
province, in the Biobio region of Chile. Son of peasant father and mother
singer. After two years in the theological seminary and fulfill the military
service, he entered the choir of the University of Chile, and began the theater
studies. From that moment he developed his artistic career, he stood out for
his contribution to Latin-American music. He was active militant of the
Communist Party of Chile and was named cultural ambassador by Salvador Allende.
In addition to his artistic talent, it
is necessary to emphasize his contribution rescuing the folkloric melodies of
the Chilean countryside, and the courage of his lyrics with great social
content, singing the reality of Chilean workers and standing up for social
equality. In 1973 for the coup d'etat of Pinochet he was tortured and
assassinated.
I like Victor Jara because his music has
accompanied me throughout my life. Also, his political and musical legacy was
part of a process of appreciation of popular music and the social role of
artists. No doubt, his figure is an inspiration for many people.
I hope you to listen his music.
Bye.
